Promoting Value Based Management in the hospitality industry
“This training was synonymous to relaxed reflection, learning,
sharing and getting motivated for the future.”
Training participant
The Accor Group is the European leader and one of the world’s largest companies in the hospitality sector, with 3700 hotels in 90 countries, as well as casinos, tour agencies and restaurants. The number of employees stands at around 120,000 spread over 140 countries.
The Challenge
The Accor/Amorim Group in Portugal asked us to produce a bespoke board-based business simulation designed to raise the competency level of the participating hotel unit managers in:
- Understanding the business 'Big Picture'
- Return on Investment
- Pricing strategy
- Responding to changing market demand
- Understanding the concept of cash flow an cash management at both the hotel and group levels
- Understanding Value Based Management.
Our Approach
ProfitAbility developed a simulation tailored to the specific needs of the Accor/Amorim joint venture and the hotel industry in general, completely customised and formatted to reflect the reality of working in a hotel chain.
The resulting simulation, Hotel ProfitAbility, gives a global overview of how a hotel business works, and to provide an easy and enjoyable way to learn VBM concepts and the drivers of business success.
The Outcome
The programme was an outstanding success:
“It gave us a broader vision ‘outside our daily framework’ and led us to question our own roles in the working of the company during a crisis period.”
“The simulation was very interesting and original, and completely adapted to the hotel business.”
